A fascinating water staircase

Berg locks

Each year the locks attracts thousands of spectators. The Berg Locks is the channels largest flight of locks, and to many also the area's biggest attraction.

The lock staircase Carl Johan which was named after King Carl XIV lifts or lowers boats 18.8 meter, a fascinating spectacle that often attracts a large audience. Seven stairs lift up the boats or sink them down in to Lake Roxen.

To ride with the boat down through the lock staircase is a unique experience, but for those who want to take this opportunity to go for a walk, make a trip to Vreta monastery or take a swim in Lake Roxen there is also that possibility.

The collection name Berg locks includes several consecutive locks between Berg and Linköping and consists of a flight of locks (Carl Johan) and two double locks – the Oscar lock and the Karl Ludwig Eugen lock. The double locks lifts or lowers boats 4.8 meters each and together they are known as "The big lift."
