With an exhibition area of 2 500 square meters the museum if one of the largest in the world focusing only on photography as an art form.
The museum is located in an industrial building where the exterior is kept in its original Art Noveau style and the interior has been restored to suite the museums different needs. At first the building was intended to house an ABBA museum but is now home to the first Swedish photography museum.
Fotografiska covers 5 500 square meters divided on four levels. Except the exhibitions you will also find a book and souvenir shop and a bar and restaurant with a great view of Stockholm.
Opening exhibitions were among others Annie Leibovitz: A Photographer’s Life 1990-2005 and Joel-Peter Witkins spectacular “Bodies”.
