One of the biggest advantages of Hemavan, in addition to the fantastic skiing, is that the airport is in the middle of the village. It is incredibly comfortable to land within walking distance of accommodations and slopes. It may sound unbelievable, but it really is within walking distance.
Two days a week you can join in a piste tour arranged by the ski school teachers; a great way to discover the whole system and to get to know off-piste skiing.
Perfect relaxation after a day on the slopes can be found in the form of saunas and hot tubs at the Inn down in the village, or in the Storfjäll's Sauna at the Högfjällshotellet (hotel). The only disadvantage is that you have to make a reservation, but then you are sure to have a place in the tub.
The skiing is fantastic. The vertical drop is 665 m; there are nine lifts and a total of 30 pistes as well as really good off-piste. The pistes are divided into 12 green, 7 blue and 9 red, as well as 2 black slopes. Off-piste at Kobåset is easily assessable and not at all extreme, but it is naturally good to have knowledge of avalanches and the correct equipment if you are skiing off-piste.
If you want more black piste skiing, it is easy to take the ski shuttle to Tärnaby where a further six black pistes are available, e.g. Anjabacken (the Anja Slope). Within a quarter of an hour you have access to Tärnaby's entire ski system with 20 slopes and a fun park.
There are even a number of cross-country trails in Hemavan. The longest is the Kobås Trail of 11 km. The entire trail goes through the mountains of Kobåset and you experience the fantastic view towards the Southern Storfjäll. The trail itself begins where the Centrum lift ends and there you can enjoy the fantastic alpine country.
