Turning Torso

Turning Torso is a skyscraper designed by Santiago Calatrava. It is northern Europe’s tallest residential building and it took four years to prepare.

The building reaches up over the Western Harbour like a ballerina’s pirouette. The architect used a twisting human figure as a model when designing the building, which comprises nine cubes, each with five floors.

Santiago is a renowned architect with fantastic buildings such as the Olympic stadium in Athens and the Tenerife Opera House in his list of achievements.

Unfortunately, there is no public vantage point in the building, but the conference rooms on the top floor can be booked, thus offering an opportunity to enjoy the view.

Turning Torso Gallery is a shopping mall close to the skyscraper. Here you can find various boutiques focussing on design and quality. You can find a mixture of Swedish and international brand names, some of which can only be found here in Malmö.

The restaurant Torso Twisted can also be found in the shopping mall, where you can have a coffee or enjoy a delicious meal.

In 2005, Turning Torso was awarded the prize for the best new skyscraper by emporis.com, the world’s largest site for skyscrapers.

Bus number 2 stops right outside Turning Torso, should you wish to inspect this fantastic building up close.
