Lilla Torg

Lilla Torg, or “Little Square”, in the centre of Malmö’s old town, is the place where old meets new. The square appeared in the 1590s as an extension to Stortorget, the “Large Square”, and it was here one would go to purchase the daily household goods.

Today some impressively old building still remain. Hedmanska Gården is one example of how old and new weave together. This building is one of Sweden’s most well preserved half-timbered houses from the late sixteenth century and now accommodates the Form/Design Center. Here you can find exhibitions about Swedish and Scandinavian design. Hedmanska Gården is a yellow and black half-timbered house on the south side of the square.

In the summer, the square is transformed into a wonderful meeting place. Lilla Torg is known for its open-air restaurants and cafés that attract visitors from near and far all summer. So don’t miss this picturesque feature of Malmö’s old town.
